Staying connected in Europe 39 countries

The Europe 39 countries plan is built for trips that cross several borders: the classic France – Switzerland – Italy tour, a Central European loop through Germany, Czechia, Austria and Hungary, or a Nordic route via Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Its current country list also takes in non-EU destinations such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Turkey, Serbia and Albania.

Within the Schengen area, crossing a border by train or coach rarely involves airport-style formalities, so breakfast in one country and dinner in another is routine. One eSIM for the whole journey spares you hunting for a new SIM in each country, but do check every stop against the country list below — especially Balkan countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina or North Macedonia, which Croatia – Montenegro tours often pass through.

This plan covers the destinations listed below, as published in the plan information (39 in total). Check every stop on your route against the table before buying.

Signal and speed depend on where you are, your device and network conditions, and can differ between plans.

Choosing a data allowance

eSIM plans for Europe 39 countries currently last 1 to 30 days and come in these types:

  • Daily data (500MB, 1GB, 2GB and 3GB per day): suits a steady routine. Check when the daily allowance resets and what happens once it is used.
  • Total data (3GB to 30GB): one allowance for the whole trip, handy when some days are heavier than others.
  • Unlimited: always read the fair-use policy; after a set amount, speed may be reduced.

Suggestions for this trip

  • A tour of around 10 days covering 4–5 countries, on the move every day: 1GB per day covers maps, messaging and photos; choose 2GB per day if you upload videos to social media each evening.
  • A 15–20 day independent trip mixing long train days with hotel Wi-Fi days: a 10GB or 20GB total data plan is more flexible than a daily allowance.
  • A month in Europe for an internship or visiting relatives in several countries: a 30-day plan with 30GB, or unlimited (fair-use policy) if you need video meetings.

Count your arrival and departure days. Before paying, check the exact plan for when validity starts, how days are counted, and whether hotspot, calls or SMS are included; these differ between plans.

Before you go

  • Cross-border trains: National rail apps such as DB Navigator (Germany) or SBB Mobile (Switzerland) usually cover international journeys too; save e-tickets so they open without a connection.
  • Crossing borders: Before each new country, re-check the plan's country list; for micro-states such as Monaco, San Marino or Andorra that are not named in the list, ask Simtel beforehand.
  • Currency: Not every country uses the euro — Switzerland, the UK, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway all have their own currencies; a contactless card is the easiest way to pay.
  • Languages: Download offline language packs in your translation app for each country on the route — German, Czech, Hungarian and Greek have little in common.
  • Emergencies: 112 works across the EU and in many other European countries.
  • eSIM setup: Before buying, make sure your phone supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked. Install the eSIM before you fly, on a stable Wi-Fi connection, following the instructions sent with your plan.
  • On arrival: Set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line and follow its roaming instructions. Turn off data roaming on your home SIM to avoid unexpected charges.
