Europe A (excluding France) suits multi-country trips that skip France: a Germany – Austria – Czechia – Hungary loop, Spain and Portugal, or Italy on to the Greek islands. Its country list also includes the United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland and the Nordic countries, which helps if you are visiting a student in Britain before crossing to the continent, or chasing the northern lights.

According to the current country list, the plan does not include France, Latvia or Switzerland — if you will drive through Switzerland between Germany and Italy, or visit every Baltic state, choose another plan. Réunion appears in the list; it is a French island in the Indian Ocean, not mainland France.

Choosing a data allowance

Before you go

• Check the list: Match every country on your itinerary against the table below, including those you only pass through by train or coach.
• Currency: The UK uses the pound, Czechia the koruna, Hungary the forint, Poland the złoty, and the Nordic countries other than Finland their own krone or krona; most others use the euro.
• Borders: The UK and Ireland are outside the Schengen area, so arriving from the continent still means passport control; leave extra time at airports and ferry ports.
• Emergencies: 112 across the EU; the UK also uses 999.
• eSIM setup: Before buying, make sure your phone supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked. Install the eSIM before you fly, on a stable Wi-Fi connection, following the instructions sent with your plan.
• On arrival: Set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line and follow its roaming instructions. Turn off data roaming on your home SIM to avoid unexpected charges.
