Before choosing your plan

Staying connected in Saba

Saba is a tiny special municipality of the Netherlands in the Caribbean, essentially a volcano rising from the sea, and its summit, Mount Scenery at 887 m, is the highest point in the whole Kingdom of the Netherlands. With almost no beaches, visitors come to hike through cloud forest, dive the submerged pinnacles of the Saba Marine Park and wander white-walled, red-roofed villages such as Windwardside and The Bottom. You arrive by ferry or on a short flight from Sint Maarten, landing on one of the shortest commercial runways in the world.

Coverage and networks

The plan information does not name a network for Saba. If the network matters to you, ask Simtel to confirm it for the exact plan before paying.

If you are staying in Sint Maarten before or after, also see the Sint Maarten (Dutch part) page.

Signal and speed depend on where you are, your device and network conditions, and can differ between plans.

Choosing a data allowance

eSIM plans for Saba currently last 7 to 30 days and come in this type:

  • Total data (1GB, 2GB, 3GB and 5GB): one allowance for the whole trip, handy when some days are heavier than others.

Suggestions for this trip

  • A 7-day dive and hiking trip: 1GB or 2GB of total data is enough, as you will spend much of your time on trails or underwater; for 15–30 days of study, work or frequent video calls, choose 3GB or 5GB.

Count your arrival and departure days. Before paying, check the exact plan for when validity starts, how days are counted, and whether hotspot, calls or SMS are included; these differ between plans.

Before you go

  • Getting around: The island has essentially one main road, simply called 'The Road', winding between the villages; taxis are the main transport and hitchhiking is common on Saba.
  • Conservation fees: Diving in the marine park and walking the trails carry conservation fees; keep the receipt on your phone.
  • Payments: Saba uses the US dollar; hotels and dive shops generally take cards, but carry some cash for small shops.
  • eSIM setup: Before buying, make sure your phone supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked. Install the eSIM before you fly, on a stable Wi-Fi connection, following the instructions sent with your plan.
  • On arrival: Set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line and follow its roaming instructions. Turn off data roaming on your home SIM to avoid unexpected charges.
