The 67 countries plan stretches out from core Europe in three directions: the whole Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan), South Asia with India and Sri Lanka, and North Africa with Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia; Qatar, Bahrain, Australia, Fiji, the United States and New Zealand are also listed. It fits routes such as Istanbul, Tbilisi, Baku and Yerevan, or a European holiday with a flight down to Marrakech.

Note that the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Canada are not included; if you leave the airport on a Dubai layover or stop in Cairo, the 79 countries plan is a better match.

Choosing a data allowance

eSIM plans for 67 countries currently last 1 to 30 days and come in these types:

• Daily data (500MB, 1GB, 2GB and 3GB per day): suits a steady routine. Check when the daily allowance resets and what happens once it is used.
• Total data (3GB to 50GB): one allowance for the whole trip, handy when some days are heavier than others.
• Unlimited: always read the fair-use policy; after a set amount, speed may be reduced.

• A 7 or 10-day overland Caucasus trip between capitals: 1GB a day handles maps, ride-hailing and translating Georgian and Armenian signs; if you post lots of photos and video, choose 2GB a day.

Before you go

• Ride-hailing: Bolt and Yandex Go are common in Tbilisi and Yerevan, Bolt and Uber in Baku; in India use Uber or Ola, and in Sri Lanka PickMe.
• India: Many local services, from wallets to rail bookings, send one-time codes to an Indian number; bring an international card and book through channels that accept foreign customers.
• Payments: Morocco, Algeria and the Caucasus still favour cash at markets and in taxis, while Australia and the Nordics are close to cashless.
• eSIM setup: Before buying, make sure your phone supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked. Install the eSIM before you fly, on a stable Wi-Fi connection, following the instructions sent with your plan.
• On arrival: Set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line and follow its roaming instructions. Turn off data roaming on your home SIM to avoid unexpected charges.
